Wow, this is a subject I NEVER thought I would tackle, but, here I am!

I know many people who just don’t want to do any exercises because they think what they do on a daily basis is just enough. Well, I’m here to tell you otherwise.

It’s been a long, slow, struggle for me since 2014 (so 4 years) and I think now I’m ready to tackle what I know has to help me get back somewhere close to where I was before. I don’t really think that is possible with the way my body feels sometimes, but I figure there’s no harm in doing some things that I know will challenge me to do better. I’ve been doing a bit of Tai Chi and think it helps me with my balance and the gentle movement helps me get my hands moving.

Some history would be good here – I’ve been walking with a cane for the past 10 months due to some back and hip issues over the years that have gotten worse, not better, with physiotherapy or anything else. So I’ve been thinking I need to see if there’s something else I can do to help it out.

A number of years ago (maybe 25) my husband bought this machine called the Total Gym 1000. He used that machine every day he wasn’t doing something else (golfing mainly). He used it so much it started to have parts of it wear out, which he replaced. So he decided to purchase another one – the Total Gym 1500. Then he decided to take the 1000 to Florida so he had one there he could use for his exercising, as we didn’t have a workout room to use there. When we moved in Florida in 2010, he decided to bring the 1000 back to Canada and we sold it on-line. He still kept the 1500 and still uses it today.

The other day I was watching an infomercial – you know the ones on TV where they show you how to use stuff! This particular one was on the Total Gym. OK, some of you won’t know what that is and I’ve mentioned it several times now. It’s a machine that uses NO POWER except you. This machine uses your own weight to work out with, so no dumb bells, stretch bands, exercise balls, etc. Strictly the machine and you. Well, there are a couple of attachments, but you can use the machine the way it comes to you.

Anyway, I watched good old Chuck Norris (who is 75 now and looks absolutely amazing) and his wife, work out together, along with a bunch of other people using their Total Gym machines. Watching is one thing, doing is another. It actually sparked something in me and I decided it was about time I tried this machine that has been in our house for a lot years!

So, I went into the hubbies workout den and started using that machine. I’ve watched him many times use it, but it never gave me any incentive to try it out, but somehow the infomercial did! I lowered the incline on it as his is up almost to the top, and started doing a few of the exercises I had witnessed on television. Not too bad, I thought, so went back to it again the next day.

While watching the infomercial, they had mentioned a Challenge that had been put together for anyone who wanted to lose some weight and get into shape. I’ve watched it, and think it is something I would like to tackle, in a little bit of time, once I’ve increased my time and use of this amazing workout machine. I downloaded the video and will watch it to accompany my workout challenge when I’m ready. If you are interested at all, here is the link: Total Gym Challenge Workout.

I’m hoping by doing this challenge, or at least some of it, I will get some mobility back in my back and hip to help me move around and be able to do things a little bit easier.

By the way, you don’t need a Total Gym to exercise. Use weights, stretch bands, walk, or just do something to move to keep your muscles in shape and keep you healthy.

Have a wonderful rest of your day and week ahead.

Blessings,

Louise
