Medical Cannabis

I wasn’t even sure I was going to do a post about this, but I think it’s about time.

I know the stigma that has been attached to Marijuana, but you have to know that that stigma has only been enhanced by governments and their ignorance in how this amazing plant works.

Yes, there is a hallucinogenic component to the the marijuana/hemp plant – it’s called THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) , but it doesn’t have to have any effect on you or me. As a matter of fact, small amounts of THC are very beneficial. Back in the 60’s and 70’s (and up to today) THC has been demonized as a bad thing due to the effects it has due to smoking marijuana. THC is a natural compound found in the marijuana/hemp plant that causes the brain to react, especially if THC is the biggest component of what is being taken. According to the Alcohol and Drug Institute, “there are over 480 compounds found in the cannabis plant – 66 of which are natural cannabinoids.” THC is one of them and is pretty much solely responsible for the psychoactive effects. Some marijuana plants are being bred specifically for the high THC potency.

Medical Cannabis however, usually only contains very small amounts of THC (if any at all). According to Project CBD – Cannabidiol—”CBD is a cannabis compound that has significant medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC. The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria.”

Last year I listened to a docu-series called the Sacred Plant and learned a LOT about medical marijuana and it’s effects on the mind and body and was totally blown away by the information presented. Since then I’ve learned so much more and in August started taking CBD oil to help with my Rheumatoid Arthritis, back pain, and dystonia. I also learned that the US government obtained a patent in 1937 that would not allow anyone other than Pharmaceutical companies from having the ability to use or distribute marijuana legally. What a serious mistake. Marijuana, up to that time (and for hundreds of years), had been used to help everything in the human body. It’s called GREED!

This past fall, as I’m sure you know, Canada legalized recreational marijuana. This IS NOT MEDICAL marijuana. It actually legalized the THC portion of the marijuana plant to be smoked, vaped, or ingested any way you want to. In my mind, this was the wrong approach, but who am I? Making high THC marijuana legal, doesn’t help people too much, except get them “high”. As I mentioned above, producers are finding ways to produce marijuana with higher and higher potencies of THC. Now we have the food industry trying to get into the game by adding this component to what they are saying are “healthy” drinks, foods, and treats which I think is totally irresponsible. You do not know how much THC you are getting, even if they “disclose” it on their labels. Sorry, that is just wrong. Think about your children/grandchildren!

CBD oil (which I take every 8 hours) has no psychoactive results at all. It actually helps to neutralize the small amount of THC in it, but it does have a beneficial component. Since coming south, I’ve sourced Hemp CBD oil with no THC and I have noticed a difference in the results I’m getting. There is some “break through” pain that I wasn’t experiencing on my CBD oil up north. So even though I’m taking a higher dosage of CBD here, it’s not as effective as the smaller dosage I take up north. Unfortunately, you cannot travel anywhere outside of Canada with the oil I get there, and cannot obtain it here, but I do have some relief with what I’m getting here. In the USA, it is illegal Federally, but all 50 states allow you to purchase it and use it. They also have some state systems whereby you can obtain a medical license to obtain and use medical marijuana. There are only 33 states at this point, but it seems more are getting on the wagon. Now they just have to get the federal government to have the Schedule 1 Illegal Narcotics rating removed from it so people will be able to travel in North America with it. I guess it’s too much of a money maker – but it does contribute to the overflowing jail and prison systems just for possession! I’m still not sure I’m for the THC end of things being freed up, but it is only one component of the cannabis plant.

There is more research being revealed lately about the benefits of using CBD oil to help with easing pain, inflammation, anxiety, and more, including sleep. This research was being stifled by the government, but think there has been way too much push back in the past year or so from all areas, that they have decided it needs to be looked into seriously, and I’m so glad they have. It’s just not right to keep giving people “drugs” that do nothing or make things worse, where CBD oil doesn’t do those things.

How does it work? Instead of me re-writing information, I thought I would put a link here that explains the Endocannabinoid system and how CBD oil works with it –

Yes, there are receptors in your brain and everywhere in your body, so it makes it more feasible to take CBD oil to help with all kinds of issues.

I know a lot of people have the thought in their minds that all it does is make you high, but, take it from me, it doesn’t. I have been able to do more with my hands since August (when I first started taking it), than I’ve been able to do since 2014!

There are many forms of taking CBD – oil is just one of them, there’s also – vaping (like smoking only a vapor), creams, strips, capsules, gummies, brownies, and more. I’d be careful about using gummies and brownies as I’m not sure you can determine how much you are getting in one and think it could be dangerous. Although, I’ve been told you can’t overdose (I highly doubt that), but I do know that I don’t feel any different when taking it except that the pain is pretty much gone and I’m not as anxious. Different people will react differently, as we all have different chemical makeups, but know it’s something that can be used safely and effectively.

I know this is something a lot of doctors think is just a lot of hype, but it’s not. Do your research, then talk to your doctor armed with valid information that you can make a good argument with. I was totally surprised with the reactions of my neurologist and physician when I said I would like to try it – they both said OK!

If you think you might have a reason to use CBD oil (with or without THC) talk to your doctor – you might be surprised by what they have to say. If you get serious push back from them, it may be time to rethink your medical team care! Remember, this is YOUR BODY, and YOUR HEALTH we are talking about, not theirs. They are supposed to be there as a guide with valid information to back up their response. If they are not keeping up to date, I would be looking elsewhere!

The Canadian Cannabis Clinics is where I went to get my medical marijuana license. They provide the service through the government free of charge – there is no charge for a license. You will see a nurse practitioner, a doctor (video chat), and a marijuana consultant who will all guide you through the process and get you in touch with a Licensed Producer in Canada to obtain your medical CBD oil in the right combination and dosage.

In the USA, you can go on-line and search through all the producers available. I’ve used two down here – Charlotte’s Web and Green Roads (and there are many more on-line). It’s a really good idea to find out what would be good for you. As I haven’t gone the medical marijuana route here, it would probably be a good idea to talk to your doctor to see what is available to you medically where you are.

By the way, if you travel anywhere in the US, I suggest you not carry CBD oil with you as if you are stopped and questioned, there is a possibility you could be arrested if caught. In Canada, you can travel anywhere in Canada as long as you carry your license with you, but you cannot cross the border with it.

I hope this has enlightened you to the benefits of using CBD oil for many things. If you need more information, let me know and I’ll help you any way I can.

Have a fantastic day and week ahead. Happy Thanksgiving to my family and friends in the USA and Happy Black Friday to everyone!
